 Only one problem--flash picture hazeSep 14, 2010

I love this Body Glove Fringe Case for the iPhone 4--with one exception. The back is entirely clear plastic. When I take pictures in low light, with the flash on, the resulting picture is partially washed out with haze from the reflection of the light from the flash on the edges of the clear plastic hole on the back around the camera lens and flash. The only solutions would be (1) take of the case (easy to do) when using the flash or (2) experiment by using some kind of black marker around the hole in the back so as to reduce the reflected light or (3) buy a different case--such as the Apple bumper or a case with a matte black back and sufficiently large hole around the lens and flash, and use it at least during those times when you expect to be taking flash pictures. Almost any brand of case that has a clear or colored back around the lens and flash would likely have the same problem. In fact, if you completely take off the case and inadvertently hold a finger on the phone's edge near the corner with the flash, you are likely to have light reflected off your finger so as to create similar haze--even though the finger might be straight up from the edge and not bent over the lens or the flash. This could happen even with a black matte case.
Now for the positive things (I would rate this product five stars but for the problem above.) It is very comfortable with a very sure-handed, ribbed grip along the edges. The feel of the ribbed rubber is soft but firm, and non-slip. There is a slight rounding along all square edging of the phone, so that you don't feel any sharp edges in your hand or in your pocket. There are cut-outs for all iPhone functions. Protection is outstanding. I have dropped my phone three times so far (at distances of about three feet above ground), and there has been absolutely no damage or marks either to the phone or the case.
I bought a black-matte "Splash Zero" brand case to solve the flash-haze problem. It is slightly more compact than the Body Glove--but so slight that I rate them even as to size in actual holding and use. The Splash Zero has a larger cut-out hole in the back for the lens and flash, tapered away from both. However, it conforms to the shape of the iPhone 4 itself and feels very square around all edges except the four corners. Thus, in my pocket and in my hand, the Body Glove is more comfortable and the edges are less noticeable than with the Splash Zero. Also, the cut-out for the volume up and down buttons on the side is bigger on the Body Glove, so that there is no more difficulty in pressing the buttons than with no case at all. The Splash Zero has a smaller opening, and I need to use my finger nails to push the buttons when that case is on.
The Body Glove Fringe Case feels good in one's hands. The edges conform comfortably to a grip, and the back, being a clear plastic, is smooth just as the iPhone 4's back itself is smooth.
I see that Body Glove makes another model that is entirely black--apparently with a bumpy surface similar to a basketball, but I have not tried it. I am thinking of going back to using my Body Glove Fringe Case, which I like so much, except that I hope to remember to remove it when taking flash pictures--either using no case at that time, or swapping it with the Splash. The best result would be for Body Glove to make a new model which would be exactly like the Body Glove Fringe Case reviewed here, but with a black matte backing and larger hole around the lens and flash. On the other hand, the Splash Zero is superior because the iPhone 4 is fully functional using it, whereas with the Body Glove there is the flash haze caused by reflection from the clear plastic.

Body Glove Fringe Snap-On Case for Apple iPhone 4 - Clear/Black - Fits AT&T iPhoneI have had the Body Glove Fringe Snap On for almost a year and a half. During that time it did a good job of protecting my iPhone4. It cushioned the phone when I dropped it. It didn't interfere with the camera or any other of the phone's functions. About a month ago the edge on the volume side of the case pulled away a little bit from the clear plastic. That was the beginning of the end, Within a week the black strip became looser and off it came. Whatever cemented it to the clear plastic part just wore out. Basically this turned out to be a disposable case. If you've owned one for very long, you should be picking up a replacement.

This is my second one of these in the last 2 years. I dropped my Iphone 4 HARD a few months ago and it broke the top corner of the cover but SAVED my Iphone. I really like the slim fit this Body Glove item has to offer and when I was able to buy another one for under 5 BUCKS (rather then $20 plus from the brick and morter store) IT WAS A NO BRAINER !!!!!!!!!!!!

This case is garbage. First of all it does not "snap" on. the back is made of clear plastic but the sides are made of soft flexible rubber that do not attach tightly. also, the rubber sides are not big enough to get all the way over the top edge of the phone so the rubber pushes the screen protector off. this case sucks, i wish i wouldn't have wasted $5 on it.

The product is what I expected for how much i paid. I also appreciate that they did not state it was compatible with the 4s. I bought it for the 4S so Shame on me. But other then the button area opening not being perfect it is a fair product and what you would expect for the amount to cash i spent. I recommend it for anyone that needs a simple case for a iPhone 4. Feels good fits well.
